Good Hair and Cosmetics- the Self Image of Our Women

On the Topic of "Good Hair" and the Self Image of Our Women
November 22, 2009

Our people have a love affair with hair. We are obsessed and fascinated by hair in all of it's variety- in the lengths, textures and colors. To think that our hair care and the cosmetic industry are billion dollar industries - and how much of this money is lost out of "our" "so called economic community," is really reflections of post traumatic Stressed/captivity/enslaved/War refugee dysfunction and self-hatred, from the attempt to live and assimilate into the very society that promotes the genocide of our people. Here is my take on the movie "Good Hair." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Hair_(film),

RECLAIM OUR ORIGINAL GREATNESS!

The Ugly Duckling

I recall the story of the ugly duckling, all of the other ducklings ridiculed and laughed at her. The ugly duckling tried to conform to the other duck's standards yet, with all of her efforts, she found herself feeling awkward, rejected and inferior. She began to believe all of the lies that were told to her about how she was inferior. She began to suffer self-hatred and disgust even to the extent of deforming herself in an effort to conform and be accepted. Ostracized and alone she went away in despair. Then, she discovered a group of young birds in the distant who sounded familiar. As she followed their voices, she caught up with them and discovered that they looked and behaved just as "awkwardly" as she!- The young birds embraced and accepted her into their group. As time progressed, she began to let go and Love herself. She healed from the damaging and cruel things that were said and done to her, and her own self hatred! She changed and transformed into a Beautiful Black Swan! You see, she was never really a duck... In nature "Birds of a feather flock together"...

To me this story is a perfect analogy of Beautiful Black African Women! We don't know who we truly are, yet we keep trying to conform to the standards of our oppressor- who hate, fear, make-mockery-of, and reject our beauty and attributes! We in turn make fun of ourselves, caught in a "Willie lynch"- divide and conquer mentality. We try to conform by stripping ourselves of our natural beauty and corrupting and replacing our sacred temple with an alien value system, consuming the status quo of foods that are not supportive or specifically nourishing  to our temple, and adding an artificial facade of cosmetics to "makeup" a mask to hide our illnesses. We spend a great deal of our money, BILLIONS of dollars on hair, hair products, and cosmetics- from predominantly Chinese and Korean manufacturers -(who often don't even use what they manufacture!) So our women spend their money for over priced products and enormous amounts of our time in hair salons, changing our hair and skin complexion, even in plastic surgeon's clinics modifying our body parts, or, poking, burning and defacing our bodies with engraved symbols; to take the place of cultivating our inner beauty. Many do not account for the chemicals that are in these treatments and the long term effects of crippling health problems and infertility.

To think of how sodium hydroxide, the active ingredient in relaxers, is strong enough to burn through a soda can, left in that solution long enough, just think of how these chemicals can damage a child or women's hair or scalp over years. Also, formaldehyde, a chemical used to embalm the dead, is used. It is said that with continued use of these chemicals, the scalp is eventually cured like cowhide leather, killing the blood vessels and infusing into the blood/brain barrier, and the rest of the body. Wigs and Weaves are often sewn and glued into the existing hair or scalp. These weaves can range from artificial plastic polyester, to Indian or Expensive oriental hair. This transplanted hair can be priced up to thousands of dollars-per-lock!

In many cases, our self-hate and lowered self esteem have reduced us to behave in the most base and shameful ways. Ultimately, because we are the womb of man, our self-hatred can poison everyone around us, especially our children! These alterations not only play a role socially, but it is also a political, classist/racist and sexist phenomenon.

What is "Good Hair?" You have to consider the Brothers out there- even in Africa, who prefer their women to straighten and dye their hair as a mark of elite status. Even in the poorest areas, they want jeans and perm kits! I also think that our Black Queens have also compromised themselves in order to attract, please or patronize the distorted perspective and psychology of our Black Men- even to the extent of prostituting themselves, in their dress and mannerism. Our youth are influenced by the media, of movies, music video performers, exotic dancers and catty reality TV.  Corporate and political images of Black people are rendered with the appearance of women with weaves and perms. I recall an Afrikan news correspondent, Rhonda Lee, who was terminated, because of the insults and controversy, with the blatant apathy and lack of support from her corporate new station, who eventually terminated her over her choice to wear her hair in a short natural. African Hair is also controlled by the military.

As a High school teacher, I've heard young men, in casual conversation, stating their dream to have children with "good hair!" With their tightly coiled hair, they reasoned that they would have to breed with a "mixed" woman or a woman outside their race to get the features that they want in their children! I also remember reading Eldridge Cleaver's Book "Soul on Ice." In his interview he stated that he would lose his arousal and become impotent, if as he put his hands in his partner's hair, it would feel nappy! I have also known men who preferred women with "Blond Hair" or colored hair as psyche-sexually"kinky" preference.

Secondly, I remember the traveling study of the African American psychologist who did the study on young African American children using Black dolls and identical white dolls. Even the minds of our youngest boys and girls have been infiltrated with this pathology in their self image at such a very young age!

Finally, the hair care and cosmetic businesses are on the stock exchange as multibillion dollar enterprises. So they will push their products, like any drug,- on anyone willing to be duped into becoming "a believer!" Even our workplaces and churches push this standard, of image, with some employers refusing to hire someone without this image! I saw a movie titled "Good Hair." I had wished that this movie would have sought out to interview more conscious-(not only natural) women.
I think an individual who has awakened to consciousness, creates a momentum for that awakened spirit to begin to embrace and love who they are and stop worrying about how they compare to another group, and their standards. It is then one can grow to become the best of their true-selves in all it's beauty! MIND, BODY and SPIRIT!

Below are comments from Facebook Social Networking...

Afroslang Kushi- Commented: It is so amazing how twisted this world has become, the very thought of distancing ourselves from ourselves, the profit the logic how can we stop it. Man it feels so good to be nappy and happy

Peter McCarthy- Commented: I totally agree with you Adenike. The spell & sickness of our people has equally polluted the minds of both sexes equally! Even though most of us men do keep our hair natural we too have been brain-dirtied into believing the eurocentric image of beauty holds true, even for our sistas. Which is sadly why many of our brothers want their nubian women to more caucasian not only in looks but attitude as well!

Xodu Xoahk Xodu- Commented: It is also interesting how even the native African Women who move to America have hair issues as well. A lot of them appear to be {{nappy not happy}}.OH, & what about the trend i saw in 2003 JOHANESBURG, where the African woman is bleaching her skin?

Raquan Allah Supreme- Commented: Peace Sista....I must say I agree with you...the ignorance of the science of hair indeed is programed within our society, & is a Pin inside many of our brothas & sistas head. No matter where I go..the fake hair natural hair is an issue. This is mos def not only a lack of knowledge, but also a lack of love for "Self"...yet most people don't know who they are!!!

House Negroes of the Kkorpratakrazy

With the Prison Industrial Complex tied into the Military Industrial Complex, woven into the Criminal "In-Just-Us" system, and the Upside down pyramid of the Underground economy, there is a seamless paradigm lubricating the gears and bolts and woven in the fabric, of the production and destruction of the Machinery of the U.S.  inc. We have moved from the 18th century industrial model, to the neo-slavery of low wage workers in a greater pool of the 99%. We are now living in the era of the Neo-Plantation. This is the social terminology and references, still identifiable in the world of the United States of Kkorpratokrazy. The United States is NOT America. The United States invaded The Americas and Brought Their plagues and War monger mentality, to seize land and resources as pirates. The US still practices Maritime Arbitrary Law in their court system. Which is only an expansion of economic commerce, that ties into the Trilateral commission, of the District of Columbia (North America), The Vatican, (Roman Catholics- Mexico and South America)  and London (Great Briton)

“House Negro” is now a definition for a parody of someone who has lost their way and who submits to and accepts being conquered and subordinated. This individual exudes their own pariah of self-revulsion. They eagerly play their role to maintain the status Quot in a failing system.

The origin of the term “negro” is simply a Latin word for the color “black.” The present use of the word “negro,” represents an archaic shadow of an old past term that we should have evolved from. Yet, this "color" reference is still used as a racial title for many African organizations. (NAACP, UNIA, etc..) These racist classifications are so antiquated by more than a century! Surely we have advanced in our own self determination to move beyond the past morays and racist dialogue of the U.S., to then move in the spirit of our own self-determination. Race is just a political construct. There are really Humans, who all come from Africa, and those who are hybridized from Rhesus Monkeys.

We presently live in a society of the North Western Neo-Greco-Roman Empire. This colonial imperialistic crushing state is a cancer, and will crucify anyone obstructing their path of tyranny. This structure has invaded every natural aboriginal communal relationship on the planet. The establishment of imperial Plantations of fascist feudal republics, destroyed Agrarian Nile Valley and eastern pastoral ways of life. Everywhere on the planet, you can find the decimation and genocide of every communal society and with it the ecosystems of the natural world.

What is left is a trail of dysfunctional refugees who are caught in a psychopathy of automated insensitive nonspiritual subsistence.

So, we presently have are the identifiable personality types of the House Negro, The Porch Negro, The Field Negro, the Runaway and the Free Indigo. These terms are often used to describe contemporary ways that many people are still selling out their own Black nation or any group who are members of the 99% of people who have been outcasts from corporations who have outsourced their industrial plants to foreign countries, who have accelerated their exploitation to establish Onsite slave camps of workers. Much like in India, China, or Japan, where instead of importing slaves, they corral their own existing people into In-house Enslavement, to work in 24 hour shifts, sleeping in the same beds of the previous workers, you can find this system in India, Japan, Africa, or anywhere there is an emerging independent nation.

A House Negro is an agent and a snitch to the Kkorpratakrazy of the educational pipeline to the Prison Industrial Complex and the Military Industrial Complex. House Negroes suffer from what is identified as Maafa Syndrome. This syndrome had existed in the Maafa of the trans- Atlantic human trafficking, long before it’s identification in the German "Holocaust." of their World War I+II. People who are caught in the paradigm of Maafa syndrome, have completely surrendered to their captors and their state of captivity. They often completely identify with, and model their oppressors. They are the model prisoners, and trustees who report any disruption of the status Quo of the system or any act of civil disobedience. They despise themselves and are so institutionalized in their thinking where they need the approval and permission of their oppressor for everything. They will listen so intently to everything that goes on with their authorities. They believe in anything that has been written down or on the Television by their abusers. An often quoted phrase that the late Malik El Shabazz Aka Malcolm X, used to epitomize this way of thinking was, "Massa, Is WE's Sick?"

The Porch Negro has been caught between the Field and House Negro. They are often too week and sickly to work in the field or run away but not willing to completely submit to the plantation authority. Yet, they are still caught in the Institutional, plantation mentality system. You find them as the so called black militant who works for and supports the Kkorpratokrazy in the daytime, yet refuses to re-invest their monies into a viable community development. They talk a lot and they are seen in the political arenas, yet they refuse to tear down the barriers that obstruct the progress of their own people to freedom.

The Field Negro is the hard working rebel. Yet, some Field Negroes may still be trying to impress their oppressors, hoping to get a job working in the house, but the majority has felt the lash and is always seeking a way of escape.

The Run-a-Way has made a successful escape from the system, yet often knows only the lifestyle of the plantation, so they continue to practice and model the plantation mentality in their private life. Their dress, Language, demeanor, government, environment and lifestyle habits, are the same as their oppressors. This reflects on the paradox of the people of Haiti, known to be the first to succeed in driving out the colonialist government and oppressors. Yet, the very next day they began to establish the same authority, speak the French language instead of their own oppressors, and practice the lifestyle, religion, diet and even the same oppressive class system.

Free Indigo People live in cultural ways that are connected with nature and the natural environment. They live in harmony with the seasons and are sensitive to and practice a natural spirituality. They know the terrain, and the stars. They know the healing herbs, and the Animals. They have their own classification systems, timeline, and calendar, specialized diet and speak their own indigenous languages and spirituality.

Our Youth are arising from the ashes of the neo slavery of the prison Industrial Complex

Yes our youth are showing their @$$es to expose the underground economy... Our youth have been the walking wounded, marching in their suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress for the past 30 years! Sagging IS NOT JUST A FASHION STATEMENT! Our Youth are lowering their flags at half-mast as an SOS to the homicides and slaughter of their families and friends who are caught up in the criminal "In-Just U.S." system, the prison industrial complex, and the military industrial complex. I'm not saying that I condone this behavior- But I also cannot condemn our young men (Or Women) either. We must embrace our youth and use teachable moments to engage and connect with them.

I am a teacher with a home-school, and I live with my students in their neighborhoods. I tutor, read to children, and teach STEMM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Medicine) through urban agriculture on our urban farm. I see this every day.

As there is a cure in nature, for every illness, Our Black Youth have gone feral, from the mundane delusions of patriotism, integrationist, assimilationists who follow the middle class value system of a society of non-colored people who want to dominate and control and exploit our people. They think our elders have failed them and left them for “def”-in da Hood, -in the aftermath of the civil rights movement with cointelpro, and the invasion of Cocaine to Crack. They are generating their own freedom structures within the underground economy. Their Hip Hop Culture has become that cypher, that pathway map and talking drum for all youth around the planet. They are moving to a green movement to take on the accountability to the ecosystem of the planet and their role in the sustainability of their environment and the Ecosystems of the Planet.

With respect to Honorable Marcus Garvey (Triumphant,) when he refers to “Africa for Africans!” the Diasporas of Afrikans on this planet, as well as the continent of Afrika, encompasses many countries whose peoples align themselves as one nation under the motherland of Africa. As I research the history of Honorable Marcus Garvey, I find that it was his life’s work to promote the unification of the Afrikan Diaspora.

I know that we can always debate the origin of the word “Africa or Afrika”… Yet Afrika has been -and is still, considered to be the only universal term for the racial origin of the original “human” (Hue-Man). All of our sensitivities over maintaining these antiquated title and ethnic affiliations are ultimately a reflection of each of our own internal conflicts and turmoil due to our treatment and the ill effects from the Maafa. How our diverse nations, ethnicity and origins were all lumped together by complexion only, without regard to our unique diversities. As Melaninated people, we were bred together, like stock animals for specific results. So we often find cases that reveal our suffering from inherited and direct injuries, of unwarranted rebuke, assault, and disenfranchisement from the MAAFA of human trafficking that still remain.

The greatest assault or sin of all other transgressions are the lies that we
have been told. We have been assaulted and besieged by so many false truths and contrivances that continue to bombard and attack our self image, self esteem, and moral fortitude. From the very history books of a dysfunctional education system that we feed an alien barbaric program into our children, We present our own children to be taught by institutions of our oppressor, to master and drill into their innocent psyche, - and to the exposure of mass media propaganda and advertisements that follow us everywhere.

My question is- Then, how shall we define ourselves!? If Africa is not considered the racial and national origin of all our ancestors of melaninated people, then what time and place can we be united at and in connection to? The fact that you can find Black people everywhere is the phenomenon that is undeniable.

Katrina's Tragedy Lesson for Good Health

I remember watching the news and the follow-up of the Katrina hurricane, in its aftermath. The main thing that struck me about the reports was how people’s very lives were catastrophically affected by a failed system. The same technologies that enable an individual to live a longer life could be the very thing to kill them when that technology fails. As I listened on public broadcasts I learned that people went into shock and died, simply because, the electricity failed, and their insulin was no longer usable! The medical assistance was helpless to do anything. There was no efficient back-up plan for this kind of emergency crisis. We must strive not to be codependent on medical prosthetics like prescription drugs, to enable our lives and health. This “quick fix” way of thinking has made us more vulnerable to a very expensive medical outcome. The simple application of a proper diet and exercise can alleviate many ailments and suffering.

The big question (the elephant in the room) is; what is proper diet and exercise? I have heard so many things about alternative living that I am now putting into practice, to incorporate in my life and personal health routine. Like an alkaline diet, vegan and raw foods. Now that I have reach maturity, I want to return to more dancing, singing and Arts & Crafts. I have been so sedentary, and so stressed that I have sought to find a more balanced lifestyle. I have so many concerns about the adulteration of our natural environment, and how drinkable water and our food supplies are compromised. I wish to return and teach our youth about gardening, sprouting seeds, preserving food, as well as applying the properties of herbs to promote healing.

Childhood Memories of O'l Jim Crow

For over 90 years Jim Crow laws were in effect in the United States. The reconstruction period only lasted for a decade after the civil war. In 1966-67, I was 7 or 8 years old, Jim Crow laws were still in effect. I remember riding in the back of the bus, with my mom. We had to pay at the front of the bus, get off, run to the back entrance and re-board before the bus driver drove off. Mom liked to go shopping downtown but, we could only go to “certain stores” that would allow "Colored" people to shop. The clerks watched us like hawks and we could never try on the clothing or shoes. I remember having to squat in the bushes sometimes because "the colored" could not use public restrooms. They were designated for "whites only!" Many places did not even provide separate and unequal restrooms for Blacks.

I remember my Mom would always pack a nice boxed lunch of cold chicken, or Tuna Fish Salad with potato salad, or pimento cheese sandwiches with home backed cookies and fresh fruit and a thermos of milk, Iced Tea or Cool-Aid. So, when we passed by a Grill, Lunch counter or café, and smelled hamburgers or hotdogs and complained that we were hungry; Mom would tell us to wait. She would take us to a park and spread out a blanket. There we would have an outing together for lunch. Mom and Dad loved us and sheltered us from hate in as must as they could. They never explained Jim Crow laws to us. When we would see and asked if we could go swimming at the pool, or to a carnival, or an amusement park, they just didn't say anything.

The paradox of the move to Integration and Civil Rights over Human Rights and Indigo empowerment, was the Black Doll/ White Doll studies, actually enable Caucasians to feel comfortable to sleep in their beds, knowing that After 400 years of oppression, dehumanization and disenfranchisement, Melaninated people preferred and identified with Caucasian, and European Assimilation, more than their own African cultural identity!

I contend that it was the complicity of Caucasian women- Mothers, Teachers, Nurses, Secretaries, Clerks, Cashiers, Bank Tellers,  waitresses, for example who refused to serve blacks at lunch counters. Then, they put their blonde, brunette, or red hair, along with their hock of spit, in our food when they finally had to give up Ol' Jim Crow...

So now we have the “right” to give away our money and our most talented people, to the prosperity of caucasian owned Corporations, businesses and society, and neglect our own lunch counters, dry cleaners, Manufacturing, Neighborhoods, banks and boutiques!

Desegregation and integration only opened a gateway to an even larger chorale of Mass incarceration and impoverishment. We were still red lined. We have learned that you cannot legislate against hate and hateful people. Instead of being isolated into a concentration camp we now must compliantly maneuver and dwell among the society that despises us. We buy from them, we practice their version of religion, we speak their language, we fight in their wars, we take our children to their schools, we eat their diet and buy food as from their grocers, we even build their empires from other conquered peoples.

Caucasian women, Teachers, Clerks, Nurses, Tellers, etc. and Middle class values of the suburban housewives who only hired Melaninated Mothers and Wives as maids, cooks, Baby Sitters and menial servants, to revisit the dehumanization of the old dirty south, Antebellum Plantations. Caucasians had the urgency then to put Indigo People in "a place" in their world that secured the safety of their illusions of race supremacy. Caucasian women supported Jim Crow Laws with their compliance, voice and vote! Hillary Clinton was around at this age. She must have witnessed the same shame and injustices; and reflected on the complicity of her parents and grand parents. While caucasian women enjoyed an elite, privileged "June Cleaver" life, aloof from that same racist system! It was white, women teachers who refused to teach the Ruby Bridges', all across the U.S. and marked down their IQ tests by 20 points. Worst of all, it was Caucasian women who lied and cried rape to provoke a defense of their honor, then to promote the lynching deaths and imprisonment of thousands of Black Men and boys. It was Caucasian women who sewed, mended, and cleaned the bloodstains from the KKKlan robes that their sons, daughters, husbands, brothers, fathers, uncles and Grandfathers wore! Even today, elite non-Black mothers go along with the racist status quo, and raise their children in private “Gated” communities, far away from public housing. As Black females, we had to maneuver around so many obstacles just to maintain our humanity, dignity and self respect. We must regather our families back together again as Eco-Gnomes and regrow inherited wealth. We must assess our human capital of Talents, Gifts, and Skills. Marriage is the merger of 2 families, not just 2 people. We Must have 3 or more Children- No more Abortions. Our elders and disabled should be incorporated as a necessity among our family, not as extensions. Grandparent should invest in their Grandchildren. ...

A Vegetarian Lifestyle to Heal the Hood

I used to be a strict vegan.  Now I'm vegetarian in the spring and summer and tend to eat a little fish and fowl as a garnish, in the fall and winter. I have learned that we hardly need to eat as much in portion of meat as we presently do. Eating meat as a garnish for me is like adding a little smoked turkey in my pot of beans greens for the oil and flavor, not as a main course.

What Is Food?

Food is any substance which is eventually converted into body tissues, body fluids, etc., and can be utilized by the organs in the performance of its functions. To be correctly classified as a food, a substance must:

Be capable of liberating energy when oxidized;
Be capable of being utilized for growth, maintenance and repair;
Be capable of being stored within the body and
Produce no nutritionally significant toxic effects

Nutrients in foods are chemical substances of known composition and structure, classified as carbohydrates (such as sugar, starch and glycogen); lipids (fats); proteins (amino acids linked together); salts (minerals); and vitamins, needed in small quantities (or, traces) by the body. In addition, foods contain indigestible materials—cellulose (fiber). Water, oxygen and vitamins, together with proteins, carbohydrates, fats and minerals, constitute the body—the blood, tissue, bones, organs, muscles etc. Foods must be taken into the digestive tract and prepared for use by the organism before their constituents may be used by the body.
Some plants are processed and eaten as food but they contain large amounts of oxalic acid and other poisons, and should not be used as food. Many plants which contain smaller trace amounts of oxalic acid are excellent foods. On the other hand, tobacco, cotton, soybeans, which are plants, contain proteins, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins and water, which are the constituents of food. But these plants also contains considerable quantities of poisons. One of these is one of the most virulent poisons known to science. Therefore, tobacco, for instance cannot be a food. So soybeans and cotton seed oils can become controversial.

Why do we eat meat?

I speculate that human meat eating began as a necessity, when there was scarce vegetation, perhaps for those who migrated as pastoral herders, in deserts and eventually to colder, northern regions with a lack of sun. This migration was probably due to overpopulation in tropical or highly vegetative regions of the Earth (who would want to leave paradise and move to the cold?) I suppose that vegetable nutrients were acquired second hand, through the consumption of vegetable eating animals. This new location and food consumption style must have transformed anatomical and survival/thinking structures in people as well. It is true that you are what you eat yet, some people mistake meat as the only source for protein in their diet, ignoring the bounty of nuts and beans as an excellent source.

The Best Food Is Raw Food

In our discussion of food combining, cooked foods and flesh foods will be mentioned. Uncooked foods from the plant kingdom constitute the ideal Hygienic diet, for those not yet ready to use exclusively raw plant foods, information on food combining of other foods is included.

Food Combinations
I have learned that food portions and food combinations are a major factor in our diet. we eat way too much meat and processed carbohydrates, like yeast breads, pastas, Potatoes and rice. My new motto is "be a bigot to "white" foods!" Most white foods have been devitalized of nutrients and digestive content. White processed -flours, white rice, potatoes, white (and yellow) processed corn, and other processed starches, sugars, salt, etc., are so deleterious to our bodies. Also, to realize the genetic modification and growth hormones in these foods are veracious. So, the pursuit of whole foods are preferred.

'Food combining' refers to the choice of combination of foods which are compatible with each other -digestive chemistry. Food combining is a basic component of optimal nutrition because it allows the body to digest and utilize the nutrients in our foods to their fullest extent. By following the two basic rules below,
  1. Eat Proteins- with Fruit or Vegetables- Never eat a concentrated protein (meats) and a concentrated carbohydrates (breads, pasta sugar) at the same meal. (ie. cheeseburgers!)
  2. Eat Vegetables and Fruits separately- never at the same meal. (ie. Smoothies)
HONORABLE DR. SEBI addressed many of our human dietary misconceptions. His perspective is to clear fungus, and acid- that feed bacteria and cancer from our bodies and modify our diet by eliminating mucus producing foods like dairy, meat and processed starch which causes inflammation. I think it’s important to teach our children right knowledge, in order to overcome our own self-inhalation. We must find ways to balance our Eco system and live more harmoniously with nature.  http://amen-parankh.blogspot.com/2013/07/electric-foods-how-can-eating-electric.html

I know that children are our future

In conclusion, we know that food is our fuel- as we become what we put into our mouths. I was amazed to see the statistics of the main causes of death in the African American population, to find that homicide is the 5th or 6th leading cause of death. Before that, Heart Attack, Stroke, Diabetes, Cancers, and High Blood Pressure ranked higher in the causes of death. Under the circumstances of high stress and outright hate that has been mounted upon Black people, the idea that we are killing ourselves more by what we put into our mouths than homicide, and how we think and feel to resort in killing, can be founded in what we put into our mouths, became a profound quest for solution, if not only for our seeds of the future- our children. I began to place my energy into teaching young people how to make healthy choices. In lower income neighborhoods, our children are under an onslaught of Fast Frankenstonian Fake Foods, often the primary food choices in the community. Even the nearest grocery store will be filled with low quality GMO varieties of foodstuff, that have gone through a tumultuous process for long-term preservation.

This process launch the initiative to Heal the Hood. My goal was to begin teaching healthy eating and positive life giving lifestyles into our youth. Many young people are found in a "latch key" state, where they spend time after school alone with few choices of good foods to eat. Then the parents may be likely to order pizzas or bring home a bag of junk food -chicken-ish or burglars and fries on their way home. Encouraging real fruit over a pop tart can be a challenge.

I choose to teach by example and started growing herbs and vegetables, right in my front yard. We forage local Dandelions, Clover, and Plantain, cooked as spring greens or juiced as a green energy shots or mixed into other fruit or veggie beverages. We collect the walnuts and acorns in the fall, capture maple and elm juice to make syrup and compost local leaves with food scraps, coffee grounds and barbershop hair ...
